A Sweet Magnolias Novel

Summary:

Maddie Townsend believed that she had a pretty great life.  She and her husband had been married for 20 years, and they were blessed with three beautiful and smart children.  They were active and well liked in their small-town community of Serenity, South Carolina, where Maddie had grown up with her two best friends, Helen and Dana Sue.  Then it all fell apart.

Maddie must rebuild her life when her husband leaves her.  Not only is he leaving, but he is leaving to have a child with a nurse at his practice with whom he has been having an affair for months.  Maddie must pick up the pieces of her life, but she must put on a brave front to help her three children deal with the emotional turmoil in the wake of the divorce.

Her eldest son, Ty, is a gifted pitcher with a promising future, but his struggles with anger threaten to damage his career.  When Maddie and Cal, Ty’s baseball coach, begin working together to help Ty get things back on track, they struggle with an inconvenient attraction.

My Thoughts:

I bought this book because I binged the Sweet Magnolias series on Netflix earlier this year.  I was captivated by the characters portrayed by Joanna Garcia, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley.  I wanted to investigate the book to see what additional layers Sherryl Woods would give these fabulous female characters.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn Netflix was very true to the source material in producing the series.  The focus of the first book was Maddie and Bill Townsend.  The second and third book give more robust detail to the lives of Dana Sue and Helen, stories I cannot wait to discover.

The story is predictable, but the characters are likeable.  At its heart, Stealing Home (and the Sweet Magnolias series) is about family, faith and love. What a nice escape.
