Your Best Destiny
A Powerful Prescription for Personal Transformation
by Wintley Phipps with James Lund
Oasis Audio © 2015
Narrated by: Wintley Phipps
Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand and riches and honor in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths. All her ways are satisfying. Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her. Happy are those who hold her tightly. – Proverbs 3:13-18
“Your best destiny really is the moment you most resemble, briefly, and reveal the character of God.” This book walks readers through how to resemble and reflect the character of God.
Wintley Phipps’ voice was built for narration. His deep and soothing baritone carries the voice of spiritual authority needed in narrating this type of book.
I got a lot out of this book. I did not learn as much as I was reminded of lessons and key takeaways from spiritual teachings throughout my life. One thing I found irksome was the reference to the Your Best Destiny Assessment Tool. I could not get the page to load. I’m not sure if the site is not maintained or if it was down throughout the week as I listened to the book and tried to load the page. I will keep trying and update here if it comes up.
Overall, I found this book to be encouraging and uplifting, peppered with tales of trials and successes you would expect to find in this type of book. It also includes stories and verses from the Bible, which I find helpful. If you are not a Christian, it might not resonate with you in the same way it did with me, however.
Mostly after these types of books, I am left with a “Now What?” search for action and closure. This book does include a chapter (5 or 6, depending if you are on the audiobook or paper copy) with some helpful guidance in this regard.
- Realize I do not have all the knowledge you need
- Learn humility and trust
- Put my confidence in God – it adds insight to knowledge
- Ask God specifically for His wisdom. Wait for Him to speak to me through spiritual inspiration as well as doors of opportunity that open or close. Make sure the answer is His and not just what I want to hear. See my life through His eyes.
- Act on the answer I receive. (A wise judgement remains just a theory unless I have the courage to put it into motion.)
Though this is not an absolute how-to for next steps, I do find this much more helpful as I think through the next best steps for my life. Overall, I would recommend this book, but more for the uplifting messages of encouragement. This book might not be for you if you are looking for concrete actions to take as you try to live your life in the most fulfilling way possible.
